If you haven’t heard of Outlander you haven’t been reading social media because it is everywhere. The Outlander craze is not misguided – it is totally legitimate and I can testify to that because I finished the first novel! I was so addicted to the book that I once stepped on to the wrong subway and I ended up having to walk 15 minutes to work. My mom often describes the series as, “extremely romantic” and I think that is the perfect way to articulate the theme of these books.
The novel focuses around Claire, a World War 2 nurse, and her time traveling adventures in Scotland. We are also introduced to her hunky love interest, Jamie, who is a highlander in the 18th century.
I could not put the first book down. I became so involved in the story that I went on a reading pause after finishing the novel to get my life back in order – I would rather read this book than do anything else. After much contemplation I decided to give myself a Jamie/ Claire cleanse and read another book in lieu of continuing the Outlander Series. That was a grievous mistake. While reading the non-Outlander novel, I couldn’t stop thinking about Claire and her man. Needless to say, I am now well into reading book two.
With a total of eight books in the Outlander series, it’s safe to assume that my reading list is set for the next several months.
