Major Pettigrew's Last Stand

Barbs recommended this book to me, and while I love her to death, we often don’t have the same taste in literature.
At first, Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, was incredibly slow. However, the last 100 pages were worth the read.
To put it simply, this novel is about two widows (one male one female) falling in love.
The catch?
They are of different cultural backgrounds which causes an enormous stir in the all white conservative village they live in.
Their love story reminded me of my own.
I am in a bi-racial relationship, so, to read a novel about that exact topic was very close to my heart.
When I finished the book on the subway I found myself crying and smiling uncontrolably.
I pictured my wedding made up of Puerto Ricans, Jews and Koreans and I couldn’t think of anything more beautiful.
