It’s time for us to go on a trip of a lifetime. Welcome to Gaby’s Berlin play by play. Each day I’ll post my family’s itinerary. I will take you step by step through Berlin and then we’ll travel to Amsterdam. This is what I’d like to call “Gaby’s Guide to Berlin”.

We begin our journey at the hotel, The Ritz Carlton in Potsdamer Platz. Great breakfast, great rooms, great company (the Turkish President was staying at the hotel the same time we were, party).

B. Holocaust Memorial

This beautiful memorial was only steps away from our hotel. It was absolutely breathtaking, and in my humble opinion, a great tribute to those lost in the Holocaust. If you’re in Berlin this is a definite must see.

C. Brandenburger Gate

Another, must see when you visit Berlin. It’s a very majestic entrance to a nice plaza. The history behind it? Look it up people… or ask your parents… that’s what I did.

Waffle with applesauce… yum

You honestly thought I would go a whole day without attempting to shop? Although we arrived on a Sunday, and every single store in Berlin is closed then, we did manage to find the one open shop in the city… the flea market! Talk about vintage heaven. If I lived in Berlin I would have furnished my whole apartment from this place. Although a little grungy at times… you can find anything under the sun here. It was definitely a great place to peak at and a nice taste of the local culture/people. In need of some new furniture? You’ve gone to the right place.

Highlights of that day include: 

1) Finally touching ground in Berlin after having flown for hours upon hours

2) Looking at myself in the mirror, after the long flight, only to find I was staring at a monster 

3) Receiving a round of applause from my parents when I exited the bathroom looking normal again, after having fixed myself up for the day

4) Eating a waffle with massive amounts of apple sauce on top
