If you are a Food Network fan you are a Chef Morimoto fan by default. Naturally, when my mom suggested we have dinner at Morimoto Waikiki in Honolulu, I jumped at the chance to eat at this Iron Chef’s restaurant.
I hate to say it, because I do like Chef Morimoto’s TV personality, but I was not impressed. Overall, it seemed as though he was trying too hard to make eclectic food combinations. My dad was completely flabbergasted when he got his pork gyoza with tomato sauce and bacon cream foam. The BF and I shared the whole fish for dinner, and I think I would have liked it had it been seasoned properly. Unfortunately, lack of salt leads to a lack in taste. I’m pleased to say, however, that Morimoto’s sushi did not disappoint – it was absolutely delicious. I was also lucky enough to end the dinner on a high note with some tasty sorbets. The BF and I were particularly taken by the aloe one.
The restaurant itself is stunning and I would certainly visit again if only to have a sushi role and aloe sorbet for dessert.
