Unbroken

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

World War 2 novels are my jam, so when a colleague at work recommended I read Unbroken I veered off my reading list and made an exception

I was not disappointed.

Unbroken chronicles the incredible life of Louis Zamperini during World War 2. His journey is both harrowing and fascinating. While reading the novel, I had to keep on reminding myself that his story was real. You cannot believe the coincidences that happened in this man's life - it really is beyond imagination.

I was impressed by Laura Hillenbrand's ability to tell a story. Not only did I learn about Louis, but I also learned interesting facts about the War that I had not known beforehand. Because the facts were interwoven with Louis's story, the novel was really easy to read and not boring.

Laura won me over with this book. So much so, that I have continued to diverge from my reading list to read her first novel, Seabiscuit

Bottom line, this book is awesome and you need to check it out ASAP.

Jewels by JAR

Sunday, May 25, 2014

I got yelled at so hardcore for taking these photos at the Jewels by JAR exhibition at the MET. I found it impossible to restrain myself from documenting the beauty of these jewels.

As a result, I almost got kicked out of the museum.

Now, I have another fun story to tell at dinner parties.

Florida May 2014

Florida was a dream

Being with my family will always be my favorite pastime. The highlight of my vacation was watching Henry fall in love with his Uncle. It's clear to me that when the BF and I have children, I will be the bad cop and he will be the good cop. Whenever Henry cried over doing something wrong, the BF swooped in to wipe his tears and hold him tight. However, Henry always turned to his Aunt Gaby for baths and bedtime.

And my sweet Dominic, who clearly did not remember me when I walked through the door. My heart was a little broken that first day, but he immediately took to me and we started to become familiar again. So much so, that when the BF tried to hold Dominic he would cry and reach his little hands out to me - it melted my heart.

I say this everytime I come home from Florida, but I wish there was an easier way to visit my family. Our next planned trip is to Disney World in November. I can't believe I have to wait so long to see them again.

Thank God for Facetime.
