Absolute Bagels

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Yesterday I took a tumble and all my bodyweight landed on my knee - I thought it was broken. By the time I fell asleep I was convinced I needed to get an x-ray, as nothing I did would alleviate the pain. Well, to my surprise, my knee was fine this morning and I didn't need to visit the doctor's office.

As a reward for my suffering I think I'll take a trip to my favorite bagel place, Absolute Bagels. Ironically, Absolute Bagels is located a few blocks away from my alma mater, Barnard College. I had never heard of Absolute Bagels until a colleague of mine told me about the hole in the wall last year. Now, I try and go there at least once a week.

I always thought the best bagel place was located in my hometown, but Absolute rivals even my childhood favorite.

Absolute's bagels are incredibly doughy and soft. No matter what flavor you get they are always delicious. Beware, there's often a line if you go on weekend mornings.
However, the bagels are definitely worth the wait.

I read somewhere that infinity scarves are out.

I'm sorry, do those people live in the polar vortex?
I think not

OOTD

Sunday, January 26, 2014

I have lived in New York my entire life.
I grew up in Long Island, went to Barnard College and stayed in NYC to live - in 25 years of being a New Yorker I have never seen a winter quite like this.
Now, each day I plan my outfits around my snow boots.

I'm constantly impressed by the durability of my Doc Martens. I've really had to expand my winter boot options and I'm glad to know that my Docs can hold up in the snow.

Another tip for surviving the polar vortex?

Layering.
I'm always bundled up to the max.
I can't wait for the days when the temperature reaches 30 degrees and I can go from triple layers to double.

L'Artusi

Thursday, January 23, 2014

For a family dinner (more appropriately labeled a feast) my family and I went to a delicious italian restaurant named L'Artusi. We were incredibly gluttonous that evening and ordered almost every single item on the menu.

I have to admit, I'm happy we were so ravenous, as each dish was better than the next.

I can't wait to go back to L'Artusi, and order some pasta, in the near future.

In my world it's not freezing in NYC, it's fall.
The leaves are yellow and it's a brisk 60 degrees.

The Interior

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

The BF and I moved into our new home several months ago, and with all the craziness of moving, I forgot to share how we decorated.
We trashed almost everything from our old studio and bought all new goodies for our one bedroom. Listed below are some of our purchases for the new place.

1. The Container Store: I bought these bins with the idea of using them to store my handbags. Unfortunately, the bags didn't fit in the boxes, so I returned them.

2. The Container Store: I'm obsessed with these bookcases. They live in both my hallway and bedroom. The multiple shelves are perfect for storage.

3. Crate and Barrel: This side table is a blogger's best friend. It fits right under my couch and is where I work on my computer daily. I'm toying with the idea of purchasing a second.

4. Crate and Barrel: Best purchase I made for the apartment, hands down

5. Crate and Barrel: The furry pillows, while good in theory, shed everywhere. They went back to Crate and Barrel ASAP.

6. Crate and Barrel: The best ottoman for the best couch, duh.

7. Crate and Barrel: I had a headboard growing up, but since moving to the city I was headboard-less. Not anymore! The BF often says, "This is the best headboard ever".
I kid you not - that's a direct quote.
