The Signature of All Things

I hate writing bad reviews, it makes me feel terrible, however, reading The Signature of All Things was like watching paint dry. I was incredibly excited to read this novel, as it's by the same author as Eat, Pray, Love but unfortunately the book did not live up to my expectations.

The story follows the life of Henry Whittaker and then transitions to tell the tale of his daughter's life, Alma. Saying tale is an overstatement as there's not much to tell. Both father and daughter are famous botanists in the 19th century. Alma's specialty, bryology, is the study of mosses. I kid you not, a significant portion of this book discusses mosses... in detail.

You're probably wondering why I didn't put the book down halfway through and call it quits - I couldn't. I have never stopped reading a book. Therefore, I pushed forward and finished the novel.

All I can say is, I'm glad it's over.

I strongly recommend not reading The Signature of All Things - there are too many better things to be doing with your time instead.
