ALC & Shopbop Giveaway WINNER!

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

The day has finally come, a winner has been chosen! Congratulations to Toni, you are now the proud owner of a $100 dollar gift card to Shopbop! I'm honestly so jealous, so many wonderful things on that site and seeing as I'm a shopaholic, uy the possibilities! Anyway, congratulations Toni! I hope you share with me what you get in the future.

Also, for those of you who feel as if you've been jipped and you want to win something, I'm in the works of having several more giveaways in the near future (and by near future I literally mean this week and upcoming weeks to follow), so stay tuned and try again!

Now to some clothes talk. One of my favorite brands is ALC. Their things are so beautiful. When I went to the Barney's warehouse sale I stocked up on lots of ALC goodies, including this long sleeve dress I'm wearing below. I absolutely love the color and it has some really awesome rouching* up the side of the dress, loves it!

*excuse the fact that this may be spelled wrong, it's not coming up in my spell check but you guys know what I mean... I hope!

ALC dress, Amsterdam Handmade necklace, Zara shoes, Club Monaco sweater (not pictured but worn below)

Rouching!

I played tennis in Amsterdam when I was in High School; it was an amazing experience. Being the shopper that I am, I had to find cool places to go and unique things to find. I came across this bead shop that had hand-made gorgeous necklaces. I snagged this one above. It was hiding in the back of my closet for a few years and I came across it during the summer. I absolutely love the green color and the random beads mixed throughout. I have taken to wearing it now quite frequently. It actually broke over the summer and I took it to my jeweler (yes, I have a jeweler) and he was able to fix it (after a long discussion on how he probably wouldn't be able to... I won't go into details). I'm so glad that it's back to normal. That man is a godsend, along with my shoe guy and my tailor.

I was possessed by Tyra here. When are you guys going to vote me onto America's Next Top Model? I clearly have the poses all set. I understand you're a little hesitant because you haven't seen my walk yet but let me guarantee you it's top notch.*

*I hope you all know that I'm beyond joking with this

I'm trying to have a little more fun here with these photos. If anything it allows me to work on my comedy routine.

Anywho, it's late and I have to pack up my winter stuff because guess what? I'm going home tomorrow! Yay! Barbs is picking me and the BF up and we're heading home. I can't wait to be in my nice house (where my room is literally bigger than my entire apartment) and lie in my oh so comfortable bed and frolic around town (yes, I frolic). It should be great.

Photos to come, don't you fret (I know none of you were of course).

AH one last thing. Happy Passover people! And almost, Happy Easter! I'm an equal opportunist when it comes to religion. My mama is Jewish and my dad is Christian, thus I love everyone. I've been eating tons of Matzo this week in the passover tradition. I love it (I think I'm the only one who does seeing as no one else is eating it in my office). It really doesn't taste like cardboard people, it's actually quite delicious, and has 0 fat calories! What could be better?

Ciao!

For some reason I always miss the Target collaborations when they come out. I stay up all night long and am at my computer at 12am refreshing, trying to buy the items and they don't appear. Then I fall asleep hand on the mouse and I wake up, drool everywhere, quickly refresh and everything is sold out. Guess what? These dresses did not sell out on me this time muahaha. I bought both this Thakoon dress as well as this Rodarte dress (go on click away).

I love the print on this dress and it really fits me like a glove. I wanted to wear chunky wedges with this outfit but I was too tired to even fathom wearing them all day at work, thus I wore my green brogues, love em! Barbs (aka mama) told me they were the worst purchase ever and I was just wasting my money BUT I wear them all the time so she was wrong and I was right. Ah, I love those words (they don't happen often that's for sure).

Thakoon for Target dress, American Apparel bodysuit, Zara shoes

Bracelets from left to right: Forever 21, Madewell, Tiffany, David Yurman, Club Monaco

I have to intrude here to comment, can you BELIEVE that bracelet is Club Monaco? It looks exactly like the Chan Luu bracelets. I tell my parents I want Chan Luu for Christmas and I get Club Monaco. It looks exactly the same so who cares, in the end, I loves it.

Can't you just imagine me in the clubs? As you can see I'm a wonderful dancer and I'm honestly tons of fun, as I'm sure you can tell from reading my blog (haha).

Clearly I was having a little too much fun with this photoshoot. You know what this is called? Caffeine overload, or perhaps stupidity, you choose!

Ciao!
Gaby

P.S. I'll be picking a winner of my Giveaway tonight so check your email to see if you're the winner/ I'll post it on the blog tomorrow as well!

P.P.S. Lets discuss what I'm doing for Easter weekend. Convo with Barbs:

Barbs: I just bought Harry Potter 7 part 1
Gaby: Let's watch it!
Barbs: Of course.
Gaby: And can we do our sewing projects?
Barbs: Absolutely!

We are so cool. Sewing and Harry Potter, does it get much better?

Lets Do the Twist

This is my attempt at a professional (but still truly funky Gaby) look. When I showed up at work that day a co-worker said, "Omg you look so fancy, are you going out tonight"?
Me? Go out? At night? I don't think so. I'm just happy to dress up for work!

What I'm wearing here are some of my go to pieces. The Steve Madden leopard wedges, the J. Crew belt, the over-used and abused Zara sweater (that I seem to wear every other day... issues).

There are always those items of clothing you just gravitate to. This sweater is one of those items. I really need to stop wearing it so often, it's getting repetitive. I must say though, I'll be so sad to put it away once summer comes along (I think I'm transitioning to summer clothes this weekend). I'll have to say a special goodbye to this baby and be sure to smother it in moth balls so it looks just as perfect next winter! After all my complaining about the cold weather, I'm getting sad about putting away my sweaters, uy.

Zara sweater, J. Crew belt, Madewell necklace, American Apparel skirt, Steve Madden shoes

My pride and joy, my Dannijo sample sale bracelet. I just love the neon orange flowers. I mean... it's just perfection; Dannijo bracelet, sample sale, inexpensive, neon orange... all words you just LOVE hearing said in one sentence.

It's the most wonderful time of the blog (I'm imagining this being sung very loud)....

My Crummy (get it?) Review
** For those of you who are new readers crummy is a play on the name Crumbs (cupcakes), my obsession**

I'm dying just looking at these pictures right now. As I've promised above, this is my crummy review. The top cupcake, which I've conveniently forgotten the name of, was very tasteless (I know I can't believe I'm saying this about a Crumbs cupcake). Stay away from it, the frosting is hard and there's nothing inside it, total waste. What can I say, I'm shockingly blunt. Sometimes the crummy truth hurts (I can't stop with the wonderful puns)!

However, this bottom beauty, the Birthday cupcake, is fabulous. Cream cheese frosting, sprinkles baked in the cake... oh yea, and more cream cheese frosting in the center, I mean this is heaven. I was even tempted to lie and say it was my birthday just to get a candle (the guy said it came with one) but I didn't. I had to keep my morality intact for the day.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Monday.

Until my next crummy post (I just can't stop)!

Ciao!

Lovin 'Dem 70's

Sunday, April 17, 2011

Whenever it's even the least bit sunny out we head up to Columbia's campus to hang out and walk around. I feel so old when I'm there now, like my time there was years before when I only just graduated last year! When I went there whenever there was sun EVERYONE on campus would come out and sit on the lawns. We'd play sports, drink, have water fights... it was insane. They'd even have the food carts come on campus for us to eat from. Those were definitely some of my most memorable and fun times.

The Zara top I'm wearing I bought about a year ago at Zara. I'm very happy I purchased it because polka dots are everywhere now! I love the layers in the front as well as the bell-esque sleeves. The top only adds to my overall 70's ensemble. Hey, Columbia was a very cool/politically active campus back then, gotta represent!

Zara blouse, Hollister belt, J. Brand jeans, Alexander Wang bag, Jeffrey Cambell shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses, Forever 21 jacket

My BF is Korean (I think this is the millionth time I've mentioned this lol) so we like to shop at the Asian markets here in the city, they have some incredible food. The one we usually love is H-Mart, but unfortunately, the one in the city is miniscule and hard to maneuver around, so we hit up M2M which is about a block or two away from Columbia. I used to go there to buy food before I even met my BF so it's funny now that it's become one of our places. They have a huge selection of great Korean food and side dishes, so its a wonderful alternative to H-Mart.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Until tomorrow.

Sparkle

Thursday, April 14, 2011

This week has been long and exciting. I am beyond happy it's Friday. I can't wait to relax over the weekend! Yesterday, April 14th, was my Papa's birthday so a big shout out to him for turning 38 (for the millionth year in a row).  I love my Dad, so Happy Birthday Pops!

This sweatshirt I had been eyeing at J.Crew last summer and finally purchased it over the wintertime. It's quite comfortable and a very interesting grey color (it has sort of a bluish tint to it). I love the zipper detail on the side, a lovely added bonus. I bought the same sweater for my cousin for Christmas. We enjoy dressing like twins (yea right). After I purchased this my mom said, "that's going to look so nice when you go to the gym". Oh Barbs (aka mama) you underestimate my casual dressing skills. I don't wear it to the gym, I wear it on the streets of NYC!

Degaine scarf, J. Crew sweatshirt, Cheap Monday leather shorts, Forever 21 shoes, Alexander Wang bag, Ray Ban sunglasses

I look like I'm straight out of an old musical here. I'm about to bust into New York, New York.

Our neighbors must think were psychotic taking so many pictures on the balcony all the time. We're like the neighborhood show, free tickets everyday at 6:15pm.

In college this faux leather jacket was the it item. I'm not even kidding you. All my friends would borrow it no matter what the size. I'm 5'8 and my 5'2 roommate would borrow it constantly. I wore it out to a bar one evening and, after a few too many drinks, left it in a booth to be guarded by my even drunker friend. That was a mistake. I returned and it was stolen (along with my purse). The next morning we returned to the Cafe asking questions to see if they had found anything. I was devastated about my purse, my roommates were devastated about my jacket (and who am I kidding I was upset too, definitely one of my best purchases). Thank God my friend was chummy with the restaurant owner; two days later we got a call saying they had found the jacket. And low and behold there it was! There was a mass celebration in the apartment after that. Our coveted jacket had been returned!

I hope I haven't put you to sleep with my college tale. I have so many photos to edit and arrange this weekend, I can't wait to post them! Many more outfits to come and crumbs cupcakes too (I told you I was obsessed).

I had a cupcake for dinner tonight (yes, just a cupcake), it's seriously an issue. I think I should start cupcakes Crumbs anonymous, I'm in desperate need of it.

Hungry

You guessed it... this is a foodie post!

Warning: This post is not for the faint of heart or, more importantly, vegetarians.

Could you figure out what it was? Even if you didn't, it says it right above! That's right folks, I made meatloaf!

Don't you have a meal or two from your childhood that you'll always remember/ love? Meatloaf is definitely that for me. I loved meatloaf when I was younger and used to eat a ton of it (this was back when I was playing tennis and could eat anything). I would literally stuff myself on this good stuff. And now that I'm older, and more wise (yes, you're right that has nothing to do with anything), I've started making meatloaf myself. The BF loves it, and for once we actually agree on a meal, thus it's one I try and cook often.

Above is a little taste of what's to come. Sorry if I've burned anyone's corneas. I guess I should have put a warning before this picture as well. Talk about man repelling, or more appropriately termed, human repelling. I mean come on people, what could be more repulsive than this! I've got it goin' on, I know.

xoxo
