Da' Blues

Thursday, March 31, 2011

So I don't actually have the blues but I'm wearing all blue! I definitely overuse this shirt but I can't help it, it goes with so much. The two shades of blue are just different enough that this outfit works. The neon orange elastic waste breaks up the outfit perfectly. I saw this skirt last year in the J. Crew catalogue. I was drawn to the neon orange and bought it asap. It's such a unique piece, I'm very glad I purchased it.

Madewell shirt, Topshop necklace, J. Crew skirt, J. Crew tights, J. Crew ballet flats

Swatch watch, Pippin vintage bracelet, Banana Republic chain bracelet, LF bracelet

Aha! Another smile. I can't wait for it to be warm so I can actually decorate/ enjoy my balcony.

So I was lying by the pool in Florida flipping through Cosmopolitan and I came across these beauties (see below) in one of their features. I saw the pattern and the bright blue color and knew I had to have them. You will not believe where they're from... Chicos! Thank God my mom is a VIP there, I got 5% off and free shipping. Horrah! Honestly that pattern and those colors, mmm I just love it!

(As you can see I've changed my new purchases layout a bit, still playing around with different ideas!)

One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast are chocolate chip banana pancakes. I made them and they turned out delicious. My secret? Use extra ripe bananas and half and half instead of milk (we only have fat free milk in my casa so I think whole milk would be good too). God they were delicious!

This evening I had a little dinner party at my place for one of my good friends from home and another good friend from college. It was quite fun and I made a delicious meal... homemade meatballs! I'm sorry to say that I did not take pictures, I was too caught up with cooking and talking. I promise to make them again and take pics in the future. I made two boxes of spaghetti and my BF and my friend from college (also a guy) ate basically the whole thing (I had some as well but you can imagine my portion size compared to theirs). I think that is a testament to my recipe following abilities haha.

Tomorrow is Friday... yay!! Lots of blogging this weekend and eating and sleeping, what else is new? Oh and tomorrow is the best day of the week, bagel Friday!

I'm back! Sorry about the one day hiatus... I had a stomach virus. It was not fun and I worked through it all (can't waste those personal days unless it's really serious). Because I was working, and sick, I just couldn't bear to do anything else but lie down and watch Teen Mom last night.

This outfit is VERY relaxed but turned out looking cuter than I expected. The cashmere sweater was a gift from the BF during his J. Crew days. I won't even tell you how much it was... you'll just die it was so cheap. Let's just say it was originally in the high 100 dollar range and we got it for less than 50. I beg the BF every other week to go back to work there, but alas he has moved on to bigger and better things. But I mean, he could work there just one day every now and then right? These jeans are pretty old. I got them in college and my roommate thought they were hideous but I like that they're very baggy. They're incredibly comfortable because of it. I would have never imagined that all these shades of blue could match with mustard yellow but I think the outfit turned out looking pretty good.

J. Crew cashmere sweater, Abercrombie and Fitch jeans, Converse sneakers, House of Harlow necklace, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag

I've snuck in a couple of smiles here and there for you guys... I do smile, I really do!

I'm sure by this point some of your are wondering, "is that a man's sweater"? Yes, yes it is. Come on guys we all know my love for men's clothing at this point. However, if you think these jeans are for men you've guessed wrong... they actually sold these for women (shocking to some I know).

The BF is OBSESSED with anything chicken parm. I'm not a huge fan myself but every now and then I have to give in to his cravings. I found this recipe in Cooking Lite and knew he would love it. I must admit, even I enjoyed it. It's a chicken parm burger (recipe courtesy of Cooking Lite) and rosemary french fries (courtesy of me)!

I have some new projects in the works that I'm excited to debut soon on my blog. I also plan on finishing the updates that are still under construction (sorry for the delay).

If you haven't noticed Tobi is sponsoring my blog! In the sidebar (on the right hand side of my blog) is my new Tobi ad with a 20% discount for all my followers. Just enter FASHIONABLE20 when you're checking out to receive 20% off. They have some great stuff on their site, I'm specifically loving the Comme des Garcons clutches.

P.S. I realize no one watches B&S but do I have some Grey's lovers out there? Is anyone as excited as me for tomorrows episode? It looks crazy!!

All About Leather

Monday, March 28, 2011

I love this leather dress. My parents bought it for me for graduation, (we had a little shopping spree). When my mom purchased it she said, "you can't gain an ounce in that dress!" Well ha mom it's a year later and I fit into it better than last year... so there! (hehe). It is a little on the shorter side but I still like it. Generally, I like to wear longer things but I think it still looks pretty good. The silver shoes are from J. Crew (big shocker there) I got them on sale last summer and with my BF's discount they were insanely cheap. I love the silver color, it makes them stand out against most any outfit. The shape of the shoe is so classic as well, I have them in two colors black and silver. I adore J. Crew's ballet flats (among many other things).

Equipment shirt, Zara leather dress, Wolford tights, J. Crew ballet flats

Here I'm trying to emulate my inner True Grit, ala Hailee Steinfeld... yea right. I had this outfit stored on my desktop and it's another one that I really like so I just had to share it. Everything I'm wearing I bought several years ago (aside from the belt) and it all looks pretty good. I love pieces that can stand the test of time... saves me a lot of money over the years!

American Colors shirt dress, J. Crew belt, Club Monaco sweater, Forever 21 hat, Chloe Bag, J. Crew tights, Steve Madden boots

Saturday night the BF and I watched Anthony Bourdain No Reservations (love that show), he went to Colombia so we were inspired to have hispanic food. There's a great little place in the city (I think they have several different locations) called Cafe Con Leche. We go there frequently and their food is delicious. Our favorite, is of course, the sweet maduros, they're like candy. The meal definitely satisfied our hispanic food craving, take that Anthony Bourdain!

We went food shopping tonight so back to my nightly cooking, I must say I'm starting to like it MUCH better than take out which is good because we were ordering out way too much before. On Thursday some college friends are coming over for a dinner party. We all used to cook together when we were in college, and by we cooking I mean me. I'm planning on making meatballs... can't wait!

This weekend was very uneventful, however, I was able to accomplish a lot of what I wanted. I finally cleaned up the entire apartment. We have a studio, so space is limited. When we moved in one of our requirements was desk space for my BF to study at. It turns out that he likes to study best at our coffee table (of course we buy this nice desk and instead he likes to sit on the floor at our coffee table), so this weekend I took over the desk space to use as my blogging area. I am very excited about it. It will definitely make blogging a lot easier!

This outfit includes some of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. Obviously I have nothing bad to say about these shoes as I stated in this post here. The lace top I saw at Zara in September and bought it right away (even though it was a hefty price). I love the detailing in it, it looks like a high end designer piece. Lastly, my necklace I purchased several years ago in Florida with my mom at Banana Republic. Banana is my go to place for great jewelry. You wouldn't know it but they really do have the best pieces.

Zara jacket, Banana Republic necklace, Zara lace shirt, J Brand jeans, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag

Swatch watch, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, YSL ring, Forever 21 Bracelet

The Marc by Marc Jacobs bag was a gift from my parents years ago. It has studs on it... what more can I say?

Sometimes I think I have super hero powers, yea I know I'm awesome.

Here are some outfit pictures I had saved and never posted. It's actually one of my favorite outfits so I just had to share it. This Zara dress I wanted so badly last year. When I saw it on the blogs I knew I had to have it. I scoured the Zara stores in NYC looking for the dress but was unable to find it. I finally purchased it on Ebay. A bit overpriced but definitely worth it, as I absolutely LOVE the pattern.

Zara sweater, J.Crew belt, Zara dress, J. Crew tights, Steve Madden boots, Chloe bag, Forever 21 studd bracelet
Zara jacket

This jacket I purchased when I was in college. I saw it in the store and called my mom saying I needed it, it was so different than what I had ever seen before. She said not to get it because I had enough coats already. Of course, I purchased it anyways (I know I'm the best daughter).

Another one of the dinners I cooked last week was asparagus and edamame risotto. It was quite delicious and included some unique ingredients like cream cheese! I also melted some chocolate chips in the microwave and made my own ghetto fondue. It was actually quite delicious, but you have to be speedy, the chocolate hardens so quickly! I've already planned out some delicious meals for this week and can't wait to share them on the blog. I know the links have not been updated yet but I will definitely be working on them this week. Cleaning the apartment was more of a task than I had imagined! I hope everyone else's weekend was great. I can't believe tomorrow is already Monday! Weekends always fly by don't they?

I'm beginning to love Kohls. Their designer collaborations really produce some great stuff. This shirt my friend found, it's Vera Wang for Kohls. I was instantly drawn to the pleather, as the leather sleeve has become a huge trend as of late. I also absolutely love anything leather. As you can imagine this 20 something dollar shirt is not made with real leather but still it's the thought that counts. Who doesn't love a little pleather every now and then? Come on you'd be lying if you say you didn't.

Fallon necklace

The Fallon necklace I bought on Gilt last year. I love their jewelry and cannot afford it when it's full price so I jumped for joy when I saw their stuff on Gilt. I remember the BF and I were going to see a movie and I told him if the necklace was still available when we got back that it was fate. It was still there when we returned so I bought it. The crazy things I come up with to soothe my shopping addiction. I'm quite happy with it though, the multi-colored chains, specifically the neon blue, are gorgeous. I also love that it's a choker. Perfecto!

Remember when I wore these pants here. These are the same ones! DUN DUN DUN... thats right I own the same pants in two different colors. The red pair I received from my cousin Sara for my birthday, they were sold out everywhere but she managed to find them for me! Of course now they're in abundance (that is life). These black ones that I'm wearing I bought for myself on sale. I must say these pants are incredibly comfortable and I absolutely love love love the length of them. J. Crew can really do no wrong for me (as I'm sure you've figured out by now).

Ok so this pizza looks gross in this picture, I know, BUT it was actually delicious in person. It's a baked vegetable pizza with ricotta and mozzarella cheese, delicious. My dinners this past week have definitely been on point. I must say I'm enjoying them a lot. Nothing like some good home cookin'

There have been requests for the recipes of the food I'm posting. I will be posting those over the weekend in the recipe section of the blog (separate page at the top).

I'm 'xhausted (as I would say when I was little)

Until tomorrow my darlings
